Socially constipated – it’s something you cannot afford to be when you are in search of a new job or career.

I remember the client who told me she was “socially constipated” like it was yesterday. I lost it, laughing so hard! She was speaking truth about herself and many people who are just not “cut out” to be natural at networking, or comfortable with sales and marketing in general.

If this is something you can relate to, we just have to get you out there. It is only temporary. You can resume your private life as soon as we connect you with a great job that offers great pay. Isn’t that incentive enough to be an actor or actress temporarily? You see, you will be a much sought-after candidate when you uncover and get excited about the value you offer a company, then practice to deliver it with confidence, enthusiasm, and likeability.

Once you can clearly articulate the value you offer and experience you represent, then you can take your campaign on the road. Talk to everyone possible, at the store, anytime you find yourself in a line for something, at church or other social events that you attend regularly. Next, make some “on purpose” public appearances. For example, go to a networking event, like your local chamber of commerce meeting, or volunteer for a cause that ignites you.

Visit at your local cafe’ or hang out the neighborhood coffee shop. There, you will practice your value statement, and ask people if they know anyone who could benefit from your experience. Of course, it takes practice, but it will pay off grandly. And, the more you practice, the better you will represent yourself on upcoming interviews. Just remember, when it comes to looking for a job, starting a business, or changing careers, you cannot afford to be “socially constipated” – so, get out there!
